Credit Card Lock Pick Set:

This is the set that I am starting with.

Price: $25-30

Quality: From what I can tell they are decent. None of the picks have broken yet, and I stressed the tension wrench quite a bit when I was first learning how much force to use.

What's included:
In this set you will get

  • 1 Tension Wrench
  • 1 L (full) rake
  • 1 C rake
  • 1 Diamond Pick
  • 1 Normal Hook
Additional Information:
This set says that it's not intended to be used and that it is a "novelty item". But I prefer cheap, and this gets the job done.

Brockhage Clear Practice Lock:

 A clear lock cylinder.
This is very useful if you want to see what you are doing when you are starting out. They come either with standard pins or spool driver pins, depending on what you want to practice. I just got the standard pins since I am just learning.

The lock comes with 2 working keys, and a key blank.
You can use the keys to see what aligned pins look like, and then use the blank to see what unaligned pins look like. It gives you a good understanding of how a basic cylinder lock works.

I use one of these to practice picking since I can see what I am doing. That way, I can both feel and see when a pin is binding, set, over set, or unset.
