They let me see what happens when the pins are aligned and how different keys effect the pins. I grabbed this lock and my picks and started trying single pin picking.
It's nice to be able to see what I am doing, but I know that that's not practical in real picking, but it's helpful to start.
I started out by getting a feel for which pins are binding and tried setting them. I got a good feel for pressure for the tension wrench and I get to see which pick is best for certain things.
I wasn't able to successfully pick this lock today, but I was able to get 3 pins up. I just can't seem to get the last two to stay.
